Jerome F. “Jim” Bertke
Jerome F. “Jim” Bertke, age 72, of 3312 Wareham Road, Shelby, died Thursday afternoon in Mansfield General Hospital after a 2 month illness. He was born January 25, 1923 in Minster, Ohio the son of Lawrence and Mary (Walker) Bertke.
Mr. Bertke retired from Copperweld Shelby Division, after 42 years of service. He was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, Shelby Knights of Columbus Council #1968 where he was Past Grand Knight, Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326, and Woody Ridge Old Timers Golf League.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bertke is survived by his wife, Mona J. (DeVeny) Bertke, whom he married on February 16, 1946; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Chuck VonderEmbse of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; Linda and Frank Hicks of Shelby; Janet and Greg Theaker, of Arlington, Texas;
1 son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Brenda Bertke of Bellbrook, Ohio; 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 3 brothers Roy Bertke, Linus Bertke, Vero Bertke.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 P.M. Sunday evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church with his pastor, Father John C. Missler, officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
