Jeanette E. Gates Garverick

Jeanette E. Garverick, age 97, of 80 Mansfield Avenue, Shelby, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Infinia Assisted Living Center in Ontario after a short illness.

She was born October 8, 1905 in Shelby the daughter of the late Herb and Alverta (Kirkpatrick) Braden. Mrs. Garverick was a graduate of Shelby High School and was a homemaker. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church in Shelby where she belonged to the Christian Women’s Fellowship, Sewing Ladies and Loyal Men and Women’s Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Rizpah Chapter #153 Order of Eastern Star. Jeanette loved to make quilts, afghans and counted cross-stitch.

Surviving are cousins, JoAnn and Gerald Kiser of Shelby and a niece and her husband, Sue and Ken Swanger of Shelby, all of whom had a special relationship with Jeanette. Other survivors include: cousins, Tom and Margaret Kirkpatrick of Mansfield and Roseann and Howard Fischer of Avon Lake, OH; a nephew and his wife, Steve and Penelope Suter of Bakersfield, CA; a stepson, Arnold Garverick of California, a step daughter, Gayla Congleton of Texas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William J. Gates and her second husband, Meryl Garverick, 2 cousins, Mary Shaffer and Charles Kirkpatrick and a niece, Marijo Berman.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 AM with Dr. J. Harold Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the First Christian Church.
