James S. Carpenter

James S. Carpenter, age 84, of 65 Roberts Drive, Shelby, died Thursday afternoon in the Crestwood Care Center after a short illness. He was born March 12, 1905 in Rowan County, KY the son of Lee Ander and Lou (Crager) Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter was a retired maintenance man at the Shelby Insurance Co. and was a member of the Taylortown Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Ann (Brown) Carpenter, whom he married on October 27, 1956; 4 sons: Melvin, of Cleveland, James Richard, of Streetsboro, Norman, of Lexington, KY, and Gene Webster, of Nevada; 2 daughters: Louellen Lesher of Louisiana and Brenda Murphy of Arizona; 1 step-son, James Hudson of Shelby; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 1 sister Bertha Robb of Charleston, WV.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Taylortown Community Church with his pastor the Rev. Dr. Edward N. Beck, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed.

Memorial expressions may be made to the Taylortown Community Church and left at the Turner Funeral Home which is in charge of the funeral arangements.
