James Robert Patton
James Robert Patton, age 85, of 455 St. Rt. 603, Shiloh, died Thursday, October 24, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Willard after a short illness.
He was born August 14, 1917 in Rowan County, Kentucky, the son of the late Alex and Nannie (Turner) Patton, residing in Ohio since 1923. Mr. Patton was an employee of the Huffman Company in Mansfield for 5 years, was a superintendent for the Limbach Co. in Columbus for 15 years, and a superintendent for the Leib-Jackson Co. in Columbus for 12 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Taylortown Community Church, American Legion Post #88 in Ashland, and a 50-year member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local #42. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He loved talking about the Lord and helping his friends and neighbors. He provided transportation for many area Amish and Mennonite families for several years.
Mr. Patton is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Donald E. and Georgia Patton of Shenandoah, OH, and Richard A. and Barbara Patton of Coldwater, MI; a daughter and son-in-law: Celia and Irvin McQueen of Las Vegas, NV; 9 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother and 2 sisters-in-law: Wilbur and Dorothy Patton of Oklahoma City, OK; and Avis Crager of Shiloh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois G. (Cline) Patton in 1998; 3 brothers: Charles, Joseph, and Eugene Patton; 2 sisters: Eva Briner Flynn and Birchie Caudill Johnson; his step-father, Benjamin Thomas; a son-in-law: Murl D. Bluntschly; and a great granddaughter, Drew Bluntschly.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 27, 2002 from 2-5 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 AM at the Taylortown Community Church with Rev. O. Douglas Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Cemetery with military honors. Memorial expressions may be made to the Taylortown Community Church.
