James H. Eckenrode
James H. Eckenrode, age 54 of 2867 Myers Road, Shelby, died Friday, November 01, 2002 at his home after a 2 year battle with melanoma.
Jim was born June 15, 1948 in Mansfield. He was a 1966 graduate of Crestview High School and attended North Central State College. He retired on August 1, 2001 from AK Armco Steel after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a two-year employee of Med Central Health Systems as a phlebotomist and lab assistant. Jim was honorably discharged as a sergeant from the Air National Guard at Mansfield Lahm Airport. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby and United Steelworkers Local #169. Jim was a certified scuba diver and held a third degree brown belt in Shotokan karate. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling to Las Vegas. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother.
He is survived by: his wife, Helen E. (Dow) Eckenrode, whom he wed on June 28, 1975; two sons, Gregory J. Eckenrode, a student at The Ohio State University in Columbus and Mark A. Eckenrode a student at The University of Toledo; his mother, Alice M. (Baker) Eckenrode of Shelby; a brother and 2 sisters-in-law, Steven and Loretta Eckenrode of Eureka, CA and J. Susan Goodwyn of Cleveland, OH; two nieces, Alyse Eckenrode a Peace Corps volunteer in Bulgaria and Kristen Eckenrode of Columbia, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald F. Eckenrode in 1992, and infant son, Marion Donald Eckenrode in 1983 a niece, Lisa A. Goodwyn in 1985 and his mother and father-in-law, Marion and Louise Dow.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, November 3, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be on Monday, at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven C. Bond, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to First Lutheran Church parking lot fund or Med Central Hospice.
