Jacqueline Ann Jackie Metzger

Jacqueline Ann Jackie Metzger, age 43, of 5601 State Route 61 South, Shelby, died Friday afternoon, July 11, 2003, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Jackie was born July 5, 1960 in Mansfield. She was a 1978 graduate of Shelby Senior High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University in 1982. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem, Shelby Settlement. Jackie taught third and fourth grade for 21 years at Sacred Heart School including seven years as principal. Though Jackie was not a parent, she had great love for all the students she taught. Her love of her family (immediate and extended family) was so evident in her life and especially in her devotion to her nieces and nephew. How many times we have heard the words, Everyone should have an ‘Aunt Jackie’.

Jackie is survived by her parents: Wilfrid Boots and Mary Margaret Marty (McDevitt) Metzger of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law: Louann and Rob Steiner of Mansfield; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Paul and Sheila Metzger of Shelby and Dave and Faye Metzger of Shelby; 3 nieces: Katie
Steiner, Krista Steiner, and Sarah Metzger; a nephew: John Metzger; loving aunts and uncles and many wonderful cousins.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 15, 2003, from 1-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Gary Walters and Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Due to Jackie’s love of kids, education and her involvement in all her nieces and nephew’s activities, in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to one of the following: Sacred Heart School, St. Mary School in Shelby, Dowds Elementary in Shelby, Shelby Athletic or Academic Boosters,orFFA.
