Isabel (John) Kalil

Isabel Kalil, 85, of Lake Wales, Florida, and sister of a Shelby resident, died of heart failure on Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida.
She was born September 11, 1917 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of the late Joseph (Youssef Hanna Elya) and Catherine (Kattourah Aboufadel) John.
She was a native of Shadyside, Ohio. On March 4, 1938, she married Albert George Kalil who preceded her in death on February 28, 1992. The Kalils owned and operated Albert’s Restaurant in Shadyside for many years.
Isabel was a three-time past president of the Council of Catholic Women, a member of St. Francis Club, Shadyside Womens Club, Hillview Garden Club, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, all in Shadyside. She was also a member of the Lake Wales Garden Club, Lake Wales Woman’s Club, Ridge Homemakers, Council of Catholic Women and the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales.
She is survived by two daughters: Martha (John) Buchheit of Lake Wales, FL, and Mary Ann (Ken) Schaefer of Elyria; two sons: George (Christine) Kalil of Hudson, FL, and Dr. A. John Kalil of Arlington, VA; 10 grandchildren: Christine, Michael, Susan, Thomas, David, Paul, Natalie, David, Laura, and Jeff; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: George (Anne) John of Dayton, and Emile (Anne) John of Shelby; and two sisters: Josephine Hader of Stow, and Nellie Keyser of Bellaire.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseff John in 1963.
Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with the Most Holy Rosary recited and a prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
