Howard F. Gwirtz

Howard F. Gwirtz, age 87, of 18 North Long Street in Shelby, died Sunday morning in the Crestwood Care Center. He was born January 4, 1907 in the Shelby Settlement the son of Anthony and Matilda (Brown) Gwirtz.

Mr. Gwirtz was a farmer and retired form Quanex Corporation in Shelby after 18 years of service. He was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church and the Shelby Eagles.

Mr. Gwirtz is survived by his wife, Martha Rose (Durnwald) Gwirtz, whom he married on April 30, 1935; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Howard E. and Joyce Gwirtz of Crestline, James F. and Eileen Gwirtz of Crestline and David L. Gwirtz of Shelby; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Kay and Robert Pelfrey of Amlin, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and 3 step greatgrandchildren; 1 brother, Henry Gwirtz of Shelby; 1 sister, Barbara Durnwald of New Washington;

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Anna Phillips and Helen Cook, 5 brothers, George Gwirtz, Joseph Gwirtz, Stephen Gwirtz, John Gwirtz and Clem Gwirtz.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday; Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Most pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church with his pastor , Father John C. Missler, officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Bethlehem.

Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Public Health League or to Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street in Shelby.
