Howard E. Presler

Howard W. Presler, age 84, of 4953 State Route 39, Crestline, Ohio died Monday evening, July 26, 2004 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a period of declining health.

He was born February 28, 1920 in Adrian, Ohio the son of the late Russell and Edith (Mulholland) Presler. He was a 1938 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School. He was an Army veteran of W.W.II stationed in the Aleutian Islands and the Asiatic and Pacific Theater having received two bronze stars. He was a farmer and a union carpenter for local #735 in Mansfield retiring in 1982. Mr. Presler was a lifetime member of the VFW. He had a courageous spirit that enabled him to overcome many obstacles in his lifetime.

Howard is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Fred Scheid of Willard, Patty and Cletus Hoepf of Bucyrus, Diane and Roger Hicks of Shelby; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Karen Presler of Galion and Jim and Janice Presler of Chatfield; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Gerald Presler and Mac Presler both of Bucyrus, Russell Presler of Galion, and Mervin Presler of Mansfield; a sister, Dorothy Miller of Shelby. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Martha M. (Stockmaster) Presler on November 1, 2001, by a brother, Jack Presler and 3 sisters, Emma Washer, Nellie Wilson, and Elmina Presler.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 29, 2004, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mr. Steve Keller, deacon of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bethlehem, officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
