Hershel R. Shaum

Hershel R. Shaum, age 71, of the Heritage Care Center, Shelby, died Monday afternoon at Heritage Care Center after an extended illness. He was born May 24, 1916 in Polk, Ohio, the son of Floyd and Ethel (Stone) Shaum.

Mr. Shaum is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Gates) Shaum, whom he married on November 20, 1941; 1 son: Mark Allen Shaum of Carpentersville, IL; 1 grandson; 1 brother: Warren Shaum of Mansfield; 2 sisters: Stella Frederick of Palmetto, FL, and Betty Bittle of Ashland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Howard and John Shaum, and by 1 sister: Pauline.

Mr. Shaum was a retired employee of Rockwell International in Detroit, MI. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Shelby.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Home with his pastor the Rev. John J. Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ ot the charity of the donor’s choice and left at the funeral home.
