Helen K. (Mendenhall) Bond
Helen K. Bond, 89, former resident of 48 Broadway, died this morning at Crestwood Care Center after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 14, 1894 in Salesville to Lewis and Caroline (Lowery) Mendenhall, she lived in Shelby
since 1932.
In 1918 she married Wilber Bond, who preceded her in death in 1975. She was also preceded in
death by a daughter, Rebecca Cryder, in 1983. She was the last surviving member of her family of eight sisters and one brother.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Harvey and Carolyn Miller of Columbus; son-in-law Charles Cryder of Naples, FL; nieces and nephews.
A 1913 graduate of Quaker City High School, she taught several years in a one-room
school in Guernsey County. She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church,
a 49-year member of Rizpah Chapter Order of Eastern Star, a 50-year member of Rebekah Lodge in Lore City, and a member of the Shelby and District Past Matrons Association.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Carl Beighley officiating. Graveside services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Methodist Cemetery, Salesville. Friends may call at the Turner Funeral Home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday with Eastern Star Services at 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home.
