Helen Audeberta (Thomas) Mayer
Helen Audeberta Thomas Mayer, age 96, formerly of 47 Marvin Avenue, Shelby, died early Thursday morning in McComb Extended Care Center ln McComb, Mississippi.
Mrs. Mayer was born June 20, 1893 in Ruggles, Ohio, the daughter of Audebert and Eva May (Sturtevant) Thomas. She has been a Shelby resident since 1918. Mrs. Mayer was a graduate of Elyria Business College and was a former employee of C.E. Ward Co. in New London, Ohio, as well as a former stenographer at the Ohio Seamless Tube Co.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was the first president of W.S.C.S. and was Chairlady of the flower committee for 40 years and taught beginners Sunday School for 33 years. She was also a member of the Chancel Choir at church for 51 years and was a member of Circle 3.
Mrs. Mayer is survived by her husband, H. Clayton Mayer, whom she married on June 5, 1920; a son, Dr. William T. Mayer of McComb, Mississippi; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with her pastor the Rev. Dr. Carl G. Beighley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home and prior to the services at church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and left at the Turner Funeral Home.
