Hazel Ione (Mitchell) Morris

Hazel lone Mitchell Morris, age 85, of 47 Park Village, Shelby, died Monday, September 7, 1998 at the Crestwood Care Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Morris was born October 17, 1912 in Long Point, Illinois, the daughter of Boyd and Clara (Metz) Mitchell. She had lived most of her life in the Shelby and Tiro area. Mrs. Morris was a graduate of Shelby High School and had made her home with Dr. and Mrs. B.H. Moffett for a number of years. She was a former employee of the M. B. Monn Dry Goods store, Wilkins Air Force Depot, AMF, and the Tiro Elementary School cafeteria. She was a former member of the Tiro United Methodist Church and was currently a member of the First United Church of Christ in Shelby, where she was a member of the guild. She was an active member of the Richland County and Ohio Christian Endeaver Union.

Mrs. Morris is. survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Morris of Galion; a grandson, Chris Morris of Galion; 2 step-grandsons: Tom and Charlene McPeek of Ontario and Terry McPeek of Galion; a step-great-grandaughter, Brittany McPeek of Ontario; a foster son,
Melvin Creps of Plano, Texas; 4 brothers: Ray Mitchell and Lester Mitchell both of Shelby, Howard Mitchell of South Amherst, Ohio, and Dean Mitchell of Perrysville, Ohio; 2 sisters: Effie Swineford of Nova, Ohio, and Cora Simon of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald H. Morris in 1982, and 2 sisters: Esther Burrows and Agnes Kershner.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John J. Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the First United Church of Christ, to the Ohio Christian Endeaver Union, or Shelby Home and Public Health.
