Harold L. Walp

Harold L. Bus Walp, age 89, of 140 Leslie Lane, Shelby, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 in the Heritage Care Center after an extended illness.

He was born November 16, 1913 in Toledo, Ohio the son of the late Frank and Emma (Wiemor) Walp. He was a 1934 graduate of Swanton High School and attended Mansfield Business College. He retired form the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service and was an Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Walp was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby, and Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, woodworking and gardening.

Mr. Walp is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Wilcox) Walp, whom he wed on August 19, 1942; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, David and Vicki Walp of Shelby, Duane and Kathleen Walp of Sycamore, Ronald and Sadie Walp of Shelby and Randall and Cindy Walp of Chatanooga, TN; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Rosella Seeman of Warmister, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Francis Walp and Merlin Walp and a sister, Martha Corwin.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, and also on Wednesday, September 24, 2003, from 10-11 AM at the funeral home where funeral services will be held at 11 AM with Rev. Gail Angel and Rev. Carl Beighley officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Funeral Squad. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
