Harold J. “Bud” Hafer

Harold J. Bud Hafer, age 88, formerly of 85 Raymond Avenue, Shelby died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Parma Community General Hospital after a short illness.

Bud was born June 29, 1916 in Shelby and was a 1934 graduate of Shelby High School. He was an Army Air Force veteran serving in the China-Burma-India Theater. In 1981 he retired from Uforma Shelby Business Forms after 35 years of service. Bud was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Shelby Knights of Columbus Council #1968, where he was past grand knight, and O’Brien Post #326, Shelby American Legion. Bud enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and following all sports. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Anticipating his death, Bud’s humor never wavered, as he quipped on Saturday, Monday is 10-4………’ten four over and out’ . Bud left this world just as he predicted.

He is survived by his daughter, Harriet (William) Zawie of Parma; grandson, Gregory (Tracy) Zawie of Strongsville; granddaughter, Karen (Scott) Stakolich of Parma; 3 great grandchildren, Samantha Stakolich, Katelyn Stakolich, and Lauren Zawie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence F. (Sutter) Hafer in 1994, his son, Henry E. Hafer in 2001, a sister, Mary Louise Boyer, his father, Carl W. Hafer and his mother, Henrietta Agatha (Lauby) Hafer Speer.

Friends may call on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial expressions may be made to St. Mary School or to the Church.
