Granville Graves
Granville Graves, age 69, of 19 West Maxwell Drive, Shelby, died at 7:17 a.m. Tuesday at Shelby Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born November 18, 1915 in Murphy, NC, the son of George and Alice (Cornwall) Graves.
Mr. Graves is survived by his wife Helen (Aschbacher) Graves whom he married on May 7, 1947; 3 sons: Leslie Albright of Shelby, Jan Graves of Norwalk, and Tom Graves of Portland, Oregon; 3 daughters: Mrs. Philip (Terry) Metzger of Shelby, Mrs. Patrik (Suzi) Norris of Gresham, Oregon and Rita Hatch of Winter Park, FL; 12 grandchildren; 1 brother, Glen Graves of Ft. Lauderdale, FL;
2 sisters: Mrs. Mabel Parris and Mrs. Hubert (Annie) Spoon both of Lenoir City, TN.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, George Graves and 1 sister Dovia Marshman.
He was retired from Iron Workers Local #550, retiring in 1975.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Dave Asp, Pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call this evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Artheritis Foundation and left at the funeral home.
