Grant Eugene Smith

Grant Eugene Smith, age 21, of 170 East Main Street, Shelby, died early Saturday morning from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born August 6, 1970 in Elyria, Ohio.

Grant was an employee of the United Telephone Company in Mansfield. He was a 1988 graduate of Shelby Senior High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School and served in the United States Marines. He was a member of the American Legion Bird McGinnis Post #162 in Marion.

He is survived by his parents, Joseph M. and Rita (York) Frye of Shelby and Robert and Barbara Smith of Marion, Ohio; 2 brothers: Robert D. Smith, II, serving in the Marines in Barstow, California, and Jeff Smith of Ravenna, Ohio; 6 step-sisters: Dawn and Kandy of Marion; Ann and Tammy of Carey; Shannon of Ft. Myers, FL, and Tina of Spain; maternal grandparents: Edward G. and Blanche (Salyers) York of Bellville; paternal grandmother: Mary (Stump) Davis Frye of Crestline; aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Edward Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Johnson, Pastor of the Worldwide Church Of God in Mansfield, officiating. Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Burial will be in the York family cemetery in Bellville.
