Gloria G. (Shaum) Smith
Gloria G. Smith, age 84, of North Horning Road, Shelby, died Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Crestline Nursing Center.
She was born September 12, 1925 in Mansfield the daughter of the late Harvey D. and Alpha Retta (Deviney) Shaum. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of the Tappan Company and Lumberman’s Mutual Insurance Company both in Mansfield. In the mid 1980’s she partnered with friends Bea Huber and Catherine Hoffman, in the Poplar Tree Restaurant in Crestline. She was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ in Crestline and the Tabitha Society at church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, trips to Lake Erie and spending time with her family.
Gloria is survived by 2 daughters: Gretchen and Gary Blum of Shelby and
Christine Miles and David Roche of Athens; a son: Phil Smith and Sue Pitzen of Shelby; 5 grandchildren: Katy and Scott Smith of Crestline, Jenny Blum and Brad Terman of Columbus, Maggie Blum of Shelby, Josh Chandler of Athens and Lili Chandler of Athens; 2 great granddaughters: Sarah Smith and Evelyn Alfano; a brother: James H. and Emma Shaum of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Starling Smith in 1987; 2 sisters: Garnet Berger and Eleanor Berger;
3 brothers: Robert Shaum, Floyd Bud Shaum and Ray Shaum.
Friends may call on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11 AM at the Calvary United Church Of Christ in Crestline, with Pastor Michael Corwin officiating. Memorial expressions may be made to the church.
