Glenn E. Strong
Glenn E. Strong, of rural Mansfield, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at his home.
He was born August 17, 1928 in Sandusky County, Ohio the son of the late John Bolte and Nettie (Glumm) Strong. He was a 1946 graduate of Savannah High School. He was the owner of Strong’s Sohio Station in downtown Shiloh for 17 years and then worked for 19 years at CSX in Willard from which he retired. Glenn attended Ganges Community Church and was a member of the Buckeye Iron Will Club and Silver Kings of Yesteryear. A mechanic at heart, he took great pleasure in antique cars and working on automobiles. He enjoyed traveling and camping.
Glenn loved his family and will be deeply missed by his wife, Jeanette (Will) Strong whom he wed on July 19, 1986; a daughter: Linda (Terry) Morgan of Shelby; a son: Phillip (Sharon) Strong of Tennessee; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Rhonda) Vanderpool, Melissa (Russ) Stroup, Julie Shade, Paul (Lindsey) Strong; 4 great grandchildren: Brett Vanderpool, Brooke Vanderpool, Tyler Rank, Oliver Strong; 4 brothers: Allen (Doris) Strong of Ashland, Clair Strong of Ontario, Chuck Strong of Tennessee, Jim (Bonnie) Strong of Ashland; a sister: Mary McKinley of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Gerry Moser Strong in 1985; 3 sisters: Juanita Strong, Rachael Strong, Iantha Coffman.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be on Friday at 11 AM at Ganges Community Church with Pastor Joe Kunz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Memorial expressions may be made to the church. Any one who grew up in Shiloh remembers Glenn. He was a an Icon in the village. I remember going there sometimes 2 or 3 times a day whether it be for candy, gas or even to get your car fixed. Mr. Strong will be greatly missed. My condolences to the Strong family.
