Glenn E. Baker

Glenn E, Baker, 78, formerly of Shelby, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon in Pickerington Health Care Center in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 8, 1911, in Shelby to Cloyd Ervan and Viola Mae Riggle Baker, both now deceased. Mr. Baker retired from the maintenance department of Jeffery Manufacturing in Columbus. Prior to moving to Columbus, he was employed by the Shelby Water Department and Hohler’s Meat Market.

He was a member of St. Mathias Catholic Church in Columbus. He was a social member of the Shelby VFW George Broderick Post #291 and Shelby Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 763.

Surviving are four sons: Larry of Coconut Creek, FL, Daniel V. and David, both of Mansfield, and Terry Lee of Pataskala; four daughters: Mrs. Richard (Margaret) DeWitt and Mrs. Jack (Mary Lou) Coppes, both of Columbus, Mrs. James (Sarah Jane) White of Johnstown, and Mrs. Kenneth (Bonnie Jean) Carter of Westerville; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers: Kenneth and Cloyd Jr., both of Shelby, and Earl Harper of Shelby; and his mother-in-law, Veronica B. Minges of Johnstown, Ohio.

He was preceded in death March 24, 1980, by his wife, Mary Jane Minges; a son, John (Jack); a brother, Gerald; and two sisters: Marra Belle Fackler and Margie Will.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church by the Rev. John C. Missler. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
