George S. Wood
George S. Wood, age 75, of 16 Mickey Road, Shelby, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon in the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He was born February 4, 1919 in Shelby the son of John M. and Bessie M. (Styers) Wood.
Mr. Wood retired in 1980 from the Ohio Steel Tube Company after 43 years of service. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326, Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F. and A.M., A.A.R.P., and the Retirees Golf League. He was chairman of the civil service commission for the city of Shelby for many years. He was an avid golfer and was an Air Force veteran of WWII.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Rosella (Neumann) Wood, whom he married on May 16, 1947; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steven King of Willmington, Ohio; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Lori Wood of Shelby; 6 grandchildren, Zachary King, Nathan King, Rachel King, Elizabeth Wood, Seth Wood, and Olivia Wood; 1 sister, Martha Bryan of Cincinnati, Ohio; 2 sisters-in-law, Bertha Wood of Shelby and Marjorie Wood of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Elizabeth Wood in 1954, 2 brothers, William Wood and Charles Wood, and by 3 granddaughters, Angela, Melissa, and Jennifer Wood.
Calling hours will be on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral service which will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby with Rev. John J. Bradley and Rev. Robert F. Peeples, officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
