George M. Hartz

George M. Hartz, age 62, of 211 Joelynn Drive, Shelby, died Friday, January 25, 2002 at Crestwood Care Center after a 15-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born January 18, 1940 in Shelby, the son of the late Albert and Lillian (Remmy) Hartz.
He was a 1959 graduate of Shelby High School and served in the United States Army for 6 years. George worked at the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Mansfield for 14 years and retired from Copperweld. He was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church and United Steel Workers Local #3057.

George is survived by his wife of 36 years, Trudy (Johnson) Hartz, whom he wed on Septmeber 13, 1965; a daughter and son-in-law: Denise and Craig Wirick of Galion; 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Geroge M. Hartz, II and Gwen of Mt. Vernon, OH; Bruce D. and Angela Hartz of Shelby; 5 grandchildren: Jarret and Cody Wirick, Amanda Hartz, Taylor and Gabriella Hartz; 2 brothers: Edwin Hartz of Pelham, NH, and Albert Hartz, Jr. of Shelby; 3 sisters: Mary Steele of Plymouth, OH; Bonnie Williston of Shelby, and Patricia Montgomery of rural Shelby; his mother-in-law, Mary Evelyn Johnson of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Dean Hartz.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and also on Wednesday, from 10:30-11:30 AM at the funeral home where funeral services will be at 11:30 AM with Father Nick Cunningham officiating.
