George Herbert Payne

Herbert Payne, age 87, formerly of 17 Fourth Street, Shelby, died Saturday morning, October 7, 2000 at the Crestline Nursing Home in Crestline after a long illness.

He was born August 4, 1913 in Shelby, the son of the late George and Lillian (Roth) Payne. Mr.
Payne retired from the Shelby Municipal Light Plant as a boiler operator. Prior to that, he worked at Shelby Metal Products. He loved his family and was a good father and husband. He enjoyed
carpentry–having built several homes in Shelby.

Mr. Payne is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Bobbie Payne of Shelby; a daughter: Stephanie Ginter of Shelby; 4 grandchildren and spouses: Russell and Jennifer Payne, Kyle and Brian Fenner, Karol Payne, and Tony and Audrey Ginter; 3 great grandchildren: Grant Fenner, Audrey Payne, and Brahm Ginter; a brother, John Payne of Huron, OH; 2 sisters-in-law: Phyllis Payne and Corrine Payne both of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann L. (Arcudi) Payne on February 8, 1999; 8 brothers: Ned, Charles, Harold, Myron, Victor, Roy, Walter, and Edwin Payne; and 2 sisters: Laura Irey and Phyllis Tarvin.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM with Father John C. Missler,
officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the church and left in care of the funeral home.
