George C. Peterson
George C. Peterson, age 81 of 630 Bendle Avenue, Shelby, died Thursday morning in Mansfield General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born August 9, 1913 in Marion, Ohio the son of Clarence and Mattie B. (Leeper) Peterson.
Mr. Peterson retired as a major in the United States Army and later worked as a civilian employee in the Army as an administrator, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church where had been an elder. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards, reading and traveling. He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School.
Mr. Peterson was an Army veteran of WW II serving in the European Theater where he received a bronze star.
He is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Polly and William Rudkin of Pawlet, Vermont; Connie Emerson of Westerville, Ohio; and Pam and Mark Reed of Shelby; 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther (Rutherford) Peterson in 1954, his second wife, Marguerite (Sentieri) Peterson in 1966 and by his third wife, Eleanor Blazer Peterson in 1985.
Calling hours will be on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, with Rev. Jeff Matthews, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby, officiating.
Burial will be in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens in Marion where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council.
