Fred Mellick
Fred Mellick, 85, of Ohio 96 East, died Saturday afternoon in his home following an extended illness.
Born June 15, 1900 in Shiloh, he was the son of Andrew and Florence (Leicy) Mellick.
He was a retired self-employed building contractor who was involved in the construction of numerous residential and commercial buildings in the Shelby area. He was a member of the Ganges Community United Church of Christ and the Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 350, F and AM.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo M. (Gates) Mellick, whom he married Sept. 5, 1964; one daughter: Betty Joanne Fischer of Shelby; four stepsons: Donald Gates and Kenneth Gates, both of Shelby; Douglas Gates of Westerville; and Dennis Gates of South Carolina; four step-daughters: Dorothy Shaum and Sandra Gates, both of Mansfield; Betty Mellick of South Carolina, and Donna Nelson of Shiloh; one brother: George Mellick of Mansfield; one sister, Mildred Shaw of Shelby; five grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda; and by one son, Eugene.
The public is invited to attend a memorial service which will be held 10:30 a.m. Sunday as part of the morning worship service at the Ganges Community United Church of Christ. Rev. Richard A. Wolff will officiate.
The family requests that any memorial contribution be made to the church. Contributions can be left at the church or at Turner Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
