Frank Ashley Allen
Frank Ashley Allen, age 84, of 19 Seltzer Avenue, Shelby, died Wednesday morning at his home. He was born July 26, 1909 in Shelby the son of Charles and Carrie (Ashley) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a foreman for the former Millers Products Company until he opened the former Household Shop in 1949. He owned and operated the shop until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, A.A.R.P., Sons of the American Revolution and was a lifetime member of the American Legion O’Brien Post #326 in Shelby. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard where he was a gunner’s mate second class. He was an avid history buff and was especially interested in the Civil War. He was active in genealogy and had traced his family to Elder William Brewster who came to this country on the Mayflower.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. (Price) Allen, whom he married on June 22, 1946; 1 daughter, Patricia A. Freyberg of Shelby; 1 son, George W. Allen of Shelby; 1 grandson, Scott A. Freyberg of Delaware, Ohio; 1 granddaughter, Bethany Allman of Pinch, W.Va.; nieces and nephews; 1 sister, Winifred McLaughlin of Mansfield; 2 sisters-in-law, Ozra Price of Shelby and Mabel Price of Portsmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Ethel Miller in 1964.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. J. Malcolm Brook officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Shelby American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby Public Health League or to the Trinity United Methodist Church and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home.
