F. Nace Berdanier

F. Nace Berdanier, 65, of 3660 Myers Road, Shelby, died Thursday evening, November 13, 1997, at his home after an extended illness.

He was born September 10, 1932 in Curwensville, Pa., the son of Francis George and Thyra (Bell) Berdanier. Mr. Berdanier was a 1954 graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in education. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954 where he served 6 years reaching the rank of captain.

He taught advanced english at Shelby High School from 1960-1962 and at Ontario High School in 1963. He worked at General Motors in Ontario doing program analysis for 3 years and worked for the Didactics Teaching Machine Co. as a program writer for 5 years. He retired from Miami Systems in Shelby in 1987 after 10 years of service.

Mr. Berdanier was a recognized laureate poet and has had two poems published by the National Library of Poetry. He enjoyed working with and programming computers and loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Doris A. (Baird) Berdanier, whom he married on December 18, 1954; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Pam Berdanier of Richardson, Texas; Bruce and Melinda Berdanier of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Brian and Marianne Berdanier of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and William Stewart of Dayton, Ohio; 1 brother, Albert Berdanier of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. D. Evan Houck and Rev. Garry Guiffre officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
