F. Eugene “Gene” Jeffers

F. Eugene Jeffers, age 75, of 48 Harriett Drive, Shelby died Saturday, February 19, 2000 at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, FL.

He was born May 25, 1924 in Woodsfield, Ohio, the son of Charles Christian and Lela (Pyles) Jeffers. He was a 1942 graduate of Woodsfield High School. He retired in 1984 from National Seating Co. in Mansfield after 25 years of service, where he was the manager of cost controls and special projects. Prior to that, he had been employed by the Shelby Spring Hinge Co. and Michigan Steel Tube Co.

He was Member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby. He was a 50 year member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F & AM where he was the Worshipful Master in 1959. He was a member of Shelby Chapter #178 RAM where he was High Priest 1966-1967, Mansfield Council #94, Mansfield Commandry #21, Aladdin Shrine, Shelby Shrine Club, and Rizpah Chapter #153 Order Of Easten Star. He was a past member of the Red Cross Board, former Shelby City Council member, and served on the park board for many years. His hobbies included golfing, fishing and reading.

He is survived by his wife Virginia (Swisher) Jeffers, whom he wed on May 5, 1946; 2 nieces and spouse: Sally and Bob Schiemann and Jennifer Swisher; 3 nephews and spouses: Mel and Sally Westcott, Bob and Ana Swisher, Steven and Wanda Swisher; brother-in-law and spouse, Dawson and Dorothy Swisher.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candace Jeffers in 1969; sister and brother-in -law Lorraine and Wilbur Workman.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio where Masonic services will be held at 8 PM. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
