Elwood Adkins

Elwood Adkins, 76, of 51 E. Whitney Ave. died Thursday night at Shelby Memorial Hospital
after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 5, 1910, in Hazelgreen, KY, and was a retired employee of Quanex in Shelby. He was a member of the Tiro United Baptist Church.
Mr. Adkins is survived by five sons, the Rev. S.T., Earl, John C., Robert Elwood and the Rev. Gary,
all of Shelby; six daughters, Mrs. Marion (Della) Neeley, Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Steele and Mrs. Henry (Claris) Kemplin, all of Shelby, Mrs. James (Mary) Amburgey and Mrs. Charles (Wanda) Jones, both of Middletown, and Mrs. Larry (Phyllis) Hamons of Willard; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Della Crotty of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Ferguson Adkins, in 1981; one son, Darrel; one daughter, Carol; five brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Tiro United Baptist Church by the Rev. Claude Compton. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby.
Calling hours will be anytime after noon Sunday at the Turner Funeral Home, Shelby, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. I Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at the Tiro United Baptist Church and left at the funeral home.
