Elsie Mae Newkirk

Elsie Mae Newkirk, age 93, former Shelby resident, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.
Elsie was born December 18, 1910 in Guilford Township, Ohio the daughter of the late John Franklin and Laura May (Spice) Wolf. She was a registered nurse having taught surgical and obstetrical nursing. She was the industrial nurse at Ohio Steel Tube Company from 1949-1958 and later worked at Shelby Memorial Hospital. After the death of her husband, Harley Newkirk in 1963, Elsie moved to Tacoma. She will be remembered there for her diligent work as Activities Chair and for her initiation of the We Care Ministry for the ill and shut-ins of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Wolf and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, 5 brothers, Charles, Harry, Roy, Homer and Walter Wolf and a sister, Dorothy Archdeacon.
Funeral services were held in Tacoma. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 2 PM at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with Rev. Gail Angel, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Shelby, officiating. The Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby is in charge of the arrangements.
