Elma A. (Woodworth) Kooken
Elma A. Kooken, age 88, formerly of 85 Park Village, Shelby, died early Wednesday morning in the Crestwood Care Center after and extended illness. She was born December 3, 1904 in New Haven, the daughter of Jay C. and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Woodworth.
Mrs. Kooken was a former employee of tile Shelby Sales Book, Walker’s Dairy, Isleys, and was a cafeteria worker at Auburn Elementary School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Bible class and circle #4. She was also a member of the Daughters of America, AARP, and retired school employee’s association.
Mrs. Kooken is survived by 1 son and daugher -in-law, Jack and Evelyn Kooken of Shelby and a daughter, Mary Beth Martin of Shelby; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Kooken in 1981; by a son Robert Dale Kooken in 1948; a grandson Brian Kooken in 1980; 3 brothers: Thorr, Dale, and Chauncey Woodworth.
Calling hours will be on Friday at the Turner Funeral Home from 7-9 P.M. and one hour prior to the funeral services at 10:30 a.m.Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with her pastor, Rev. Lyle Hinkle, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and left in care of the funeral home.
