Earl D. Wilcox
Earl D. Wilcox, age 73, of 47 Plum Avenue, died Tuesday evening in the emergency room of Shelby Memorial Hospital after the car he was working on collapsed on him.
Mr. Wilcox was born February 1, 1918 in Mansfield, the son of Ulysses Grant and Lydia Hill (Severns) Wilcox. Mr. Wilcox was a former employee of the Westinghouse Corp. in Mansfield, and after moving to Arizona, he was a self-employed insurance salesman. He returned to Shelby in 1971 and retired from Aircraft Product Co. at Mansfield Lahm Airport. He was an auxiliary policeman for the cities of Mansfield and Shelby for many years. He was a member of the Shelby AARP.
Mr. Wilcox is survived by his wife, Ilene (Mitchell) Wilcox, whom he married on September 5, 1936; 2 daughters and one son-in-law: Judy and David McGavic of Columbia, Maryland and Carol Jean Yates of Shelby; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Clarence Wilcox of Oregon and 1 sister: Jane Price of Tacoma, WA.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Bornert of the Shelby Baptist Chapel officiating.
