E. Darrell Rhodes

E. Darrell Rhodes, age 85, of 54 Edgewood Drive, Shelby, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at Med Central Shelby Hospital.

He was born June 15, 1921 in Ada, Ohio the son of the late Elmer and Mina Flo (Stober) Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes was a 1939 graduate of Shiloh High School. He worked various jobs during his lifetime, but farming was his first love. He had been employed at the Fate-Root-Heath Co. in Plymouth, Wilkins Air Force Depot in Shelby and Page Dairy in Mansfield. Mr. Rhodes retired in 1998 from Pioneer Career and Technology Center as a custodian after 15 years of service. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby and Shiloh Grange. He enjoyed traveling out west and following all sports. He was a very proud and loving grandfather.

Mr. Rhodes is survived by his children, E. Steven and Phyllis Rhodes of Shelby, Sue and Tom Schiffer of Shelby, and Robert and Susan Rhodes of Fostoria; 6 grandchildren and spouses, E. Douglas and Kathy Rhodes, Stacy and Brian Cobb, Susan and Robert Hogsette, Brian and Valerie Rhodes, Karen and Keith Walters, Stephanie and Kevan Cannon; 14 great grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews; 2 sisters and spouse, Novelda Adams of Bellevue and Veloice and Junior Washburn of Pennsylvania; step brother, Stanley Homerick of Castalia; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ruth Wagner of Shelby and Roy and Margaret Duff of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jeannette (Wagner) Rhodes on June 8, 2006, and by his step mother, Thelma Rhodes.

Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 AM with Rev. Ron Wells officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Memorial expressions may be made to the Crestview High School Athletic Department or to the First Lutheran Church.
