Dorothy Marguerite (Messersmith) Burkett

Dorothy Marguerite Burkett, age 66, of 3631 North West 39th Place, Gainesville, Florida, and formerly of Shelby, died Thursday morning in Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. She was born June 26, 1927 in Cumberland, Maryland the daughter of George Raymond and Virginia (Colledge) Messersmith.
Mrs. Burkett was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ) in Gainesville.
She is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Marjie K. and Dan Tilton of Gainesville, Florida; Penny J. and Grover Gregory of Shelby; Diane and Larry Franklin of Powder Springs, Georgia; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Linda Burkett of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Richard Dale Messersmith of Shelby; Harold Messersmith of Oxnard, California; Wayne e. Messersmith of Mansfield; Floyd Leo Messersmith of Tallahassee, Florida; 1 sister, Janet Lucille Vanderveen of Crestview, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Burkett in 1966 and by 1 brother, Raymond Messersmith.
Calling hours will be from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ), in Gainesville, Florida, where funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday with Rev. William N. McCutchen officiating. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth with her son Rev. Mr. Dennis Burkett officiating.
