Dorothy Irene (Gannaway) Sharkey

Former Shelby resident Dorothy I. Sharkey, 79, of 1106 Montrose Place, Dunedin, FL, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, 1998, in Largo Medical Center, Largo, FL, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Sharkey was born March 15, 1919 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Claude V. and Ethel (Pierce) Gannaway. She was a 1936 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. Mrs. Sharkey was a sales associate for J.C. Penney Co. in Mansfield, and after moving to Florida in 1977, she continued working for J.C. Penney Co. in the Countryside Mall in Dunedin. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Clearwater, Florida, where she was a member of the Joy Class and choir. She was also a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Gloria and Larry Ault of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Stacy Adams of Lexington, Ohio, Jodie Hopkins of Delaware, Ohio, Beth Curtis of Springfield, VA, and David Ault of Ellicott City, Md; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Paul Gannaway of Clearwater, Florida; a sister, Jennie Hillary of Largo, Florida; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 1 sister, Jewell Frazier.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 1998 at the First Christian Church in Clearwater, Florida. Graveside services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby at a later date. Memorial expressions may be made to the First Lutheran Church in Shelby and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby.
