Dorothy I. (Wolf) Archdeacon

Dorothy I. Archdeacon, 90, of 3857 Ohio 61 South died Monday, June 7,1999, at Heritage Care Center after a long illness.

She was born April 5, 1909 in Guilford Township, Medina County, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Laura Spice Wolf. Mrs. Archdeacon was a 1927 graduate of Seville High School; and a 1931 graduate of Wilmington College with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught school at Wilmington High School for 3 years before moving to Shelby. She worked for 3 years at Shelby Economy Savings and Loan Co. prior to teaching 16 years at Auburn Elementary School in Shelby.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Shelby Women’s Club, New Vienna Order of Eastern Star Chapter #327, where she served as past matron in 1940 and was a 50 year member, Daughters of Union Veterans Of The Civil War, where she served as National President in 1982 and 1983, National Gavel Society, Richland County Farm Bureau, AARP, Golden Agers, National Education Association, National Retired Teachers Association,
and Richland County Teachers Association.

Mrs. Archdeacon is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce B. & Charlotte Archdeacon of Millington, Tennessee, Carl R. & Paula Archdeacon of Shelby; 7 grandchildren: Susan Clemons, Ted Archdeacon, David Archdeacon, Nancy Krueger, Linda Archdeacon, Thomas Archdeacon, and Carla Archdeacon; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Elsie Newkirk of Tacoma, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Archdeacon in 1977, and by 5 brothers: Charlie, Harry, Roy, Homer, and Walter Wolf.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. James Humphrey officiating. Burial in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
