Doris E. (Fisher) Ryland

Doris E. Ryland, age 82, of 1668 Myers Road, Shelby, died early Saturday morning, June 11, 2005 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby after a long illness.
Mrs. Ryland was born March 1, 1923 in Shelby the daughter of the late Sherman and Gladys (Yohn) Fisher. She was a 1941 graduate of Shelby High School and attended Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee. On February 1, 1946 she married Donald J. Ryland. Doris and Don were foster parents for 20 years, having cared for 100 children, while raising their own 4 children. After her children were raised and at the age of 55, Doris went back to school and received her degree as a licensed practical nurse from Mansfield General School of Nursing. She was employed at Mansfield General Hospital in the nursery until her retirement. After her retirement, Doris volunteered as a Gray Lady at Shelby Memorial Hospital for many years.
Doris was an active member of Clay Memorial Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and played the organ and piano. She was a very active member of the Union Grange for many years, traveling to other Granges to install officers, and was also a member of VFW Auxiliary.
Mrs. Ryland is survived by her husband, Donald J. Ryland, to whom she was married 59 years; a son, Ronny and Betty Ryland of Shelby; 3 daughters, Kathy and Larry Milliron of Shelby, Rebecca Ryland and Tim Wilson of Danville, KY, Lori and Tim Wood of Shelby; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Don Fisher of Ft. Wayne, IN, Charles Fisher of Shelby, Gerald Fisher of Brighton, CO, Gaylord Fisher of Hicksville, OH; a half sister, Patricia Larson of Litchville, ND. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Reed, a half brother, David Fisher and 3 granddaughters.
Friends may call on Monday, June 13, 2005 from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and also from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Church on Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 AM Tuesday at the Clay Memorial Lutheran Church, Amoy East Road, Mansfield with Rev. Lowell Pederson, officiating. Burial will be in Little London Cemetery, east of Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Clay Memorial Lutheran Church.
