Donna L. (Gates) Nelson

Donna L. Nelson, age 62, of 4 Jenner Avenue, Shelby died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon in Shelby Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at home. She was born July 11, 1931 in Ganges.

Mrs. Nelson was an employee of Shelby Memorial Hospital and prior to that she was an employee of the Shelby Business Forms. She was a lifetime member of the Ganges Community Church where she had been active in the Ladies Aid Society, and was a member of A.A.R.P. She was an avid bingo player.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Fred Zimmer of Oklahoma; Sue and Bryan Warrick of Ganges, and Janet and John Eldridge of Shelby; 1 son, Jim Nelson of Shelby ; 3 grandchildren, Bryan Nelson and Dayna Nelson and Amber Newman; 4 brothers Donald Gates and Kenneth Gates both of Shelby; Douglas Gates of Sunbury,Ohio and Dennis Gates of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 3 sisters, Dorothy Shaum of Shelby, Betty Mellick of Rock Hill, S.C. and Sandra Gates of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her father Don Gates, Sr. in 1963, her mother Cleo Gates Mellick in 1989 and by 2 brothers Russell Gates and Teddy Gates.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Ganges Community Church with Rev. Joe Kunz, officiating. Burial will be in Ganges Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Seltzer Park Playscape project and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street in Shelby.
