Dexter W. Sipe
Dexter W. Sipe, age 95, of 40 Park Village in Shelby died Saturday morning in Shelby Memorial Hospital after a one week illness. He was born November 21, 1898 on the family farm in Jackson Township, Richland County, Ohio. He was the son of Charles Roy and Alice (Boyce) Sipe.
Mr. Sipe worked for Railway Express for 31 years retiring in 1952. After that, he worked for the Shelby Equity for 17 years retiring in 1978.
Mr. Sipe was a former member of the Knights of Pythias and the the Union Grange. Mr. Sipe had been an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Crestline for many years before becoming a member of the First Christian Church in Shelby where he was active in the Loyal Men and Womens Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Railway Clerks, A.A.R.P. and the Golden Agers.
Mr. Sipe is survived by a good friend, Irene Hartman of Shelby; a son Harold C. Sipe of Mansfield; He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Myrtle S. Richey Sipe in August of 1976; his second wife, Grace Hammett Sipe in June of 1978; a son Robert L. Sipe in February of 1988;
and by a sister, Leila Taus in 1994.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with his pastor Rev. C. Reid Miller, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
Memorial expressions may be made to the First Christian Church and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street in Shelby.
