Dewey Porter

Dewey Porter, 66, of Crestwood Care Center, and formerly of 45 E. Main St., died Tuesday evening at Crestwood after an extended illness.

Born May 7, 1918 in Wayne County, WV, his parents were Millard and Martha Jane (Selby) Porter.

His wife, the former Ruth Wilson, preceded him in death in 1972. Surviving are three sons: Darrell of Dahlgren, VA, Keith of Norwalk, and Richard of Bucyrus; one daughter: Mrs. Kenneth E. (Gloria) Phelps of Shelby; 2 sisters: Mrs. Hazel Workman and Mrs. Ruby Copley, both of Shelby; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Porter was a retired warehouseman from AMF Inc. and a World War II Army veteran.

A funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd M. Whitesel of First Church of God, officiating. Burial will he in Oakland Cemetery where a military graveside service will be conducted by O’Brien Post No. 326 Shelby American Legion. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
