Desmond R. Finnegan
Desmond R. Finnegan, age 83, of Shelby, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital after a sudden illness.
Mr. Finnegan was born December 26, 1926 in Shelby the son of the late John Peter and Oliva (Stine) Finnegan. Des graduated from Shelby High School and retired from Copperweld in 1987 after 40 years of service. As the owner of Finnegan Well Drilling from 1964-1988, Des drilled numerous water wells and was affectionately known as digger. He also farmed for many years. He was very proud to have been a blood donor having donated over 22 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a life member of the NRA.
Des is survived by his children: Roger and Julie Finnegan of Tiro, Anthony and Stella Finnegan of Plymouth, Kevin and Gail Finnegan of Virginia Beach, VA, Colleen and Darryl Mosley of Mansfield, and Douglas and Stephanie Finnegan of Shiloh; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother: Ronald and Barb Finnegan of Crestline; a sister: Marilyn Graham of Mt. Vernon; a sister-in-law: Betty Finnegan of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his wife: Eva Mae (Hollenbaugh) Finnegan in 1986, son: Terrence Finnegan, granddaughter: Abby Finnegan and by 3 brothers: Quentin, Hugh and Brendan Finnegan.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where the rosary will be recited at 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby conducted by Father Nick Cunningham. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
