Clifford J. Stevens

Clifford J. Stevens, age 76, of 116 Park Village, Shelby, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital.

He was born August 14, 1922 in Shelby, the son of Earnest J. and Bessie B. (Fagan) Stevens. Mr. Stevens was a 1940 graduate of Shelby High School and was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a retired farmer and was the owner of Steven’s Meats in Shelby for 28 years. He had also been a sales clerk for Producers Livestock. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelby and Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326. Mr. Stevens had been an inspiration to many kidney dialysis patients as he himself had been on dialysis for over 21 years.

Mr. Stevens is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Connie and Joe Stuckert of Ontario; a son: Thomas Stevens of Daytona, Florida; a daughter-in-law: Carolyn Stevens of Shelby; a nephew: Jim Stevens of Waldo; 4 granddaughters: Amy Cunningham, Jonie Davis, Audra Wilkins, and Jana Stevens; 4 great grandchildren: Angela Cunningham, Josh and Joe Davis, and Nicholas Wilkins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene C. (Long) Stevens in 1993; a son Edward M. Stevens in 1988; and a brother, Everett Stevens in 1979.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Memorial expressions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
