Claude E. Steele
Claude E. Steele, age 71, of 1115 Eastview Drive, Mansfield, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 4, 1996, in Med Central – Mansfield Hospital. He was born April 12, 1925 in Richland County, Ohio the son of Merle and Emma (Fox) Steele.
Mr. Steele retired from Copperweld – Shelby Division in 1986 after 43 years of service. He was a member of Shelby V.F.W. George Broderick Post #291 and Mansfield American Legion Post #16. He was An Army veteran of W.W.II and a graduate of North Robinson High School.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Morris) Steele, whom he married on November 1, 1947; 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Cathie Coover of Corpus Christi, Texas and Carol and Howard Knapp of Shelby; 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Dan and Joy Steele of Warrensburg, Missouri and Russell and Shamrock Steele of Bishop, California; 8 grandchildren: Jeremy and Jennifer Schneider, Heather Steele, Brandy Coover, Amanda Coover, Moira Coover, Tyler Coover, Russell Steele III, and Lindsey Knapp; 2 step-grandchildren, Rosanne and James Steele; 1 great granddaughter Megan Schneider; 2 sisters, Goldie Crabaugh of Sulphur Springs, Ohio and Rose Mount of Mansfield; 1 brother, Leo Steele of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Russell E. Steele Jr., 5 brothers, Clarence, Roy, Albert, Proctor, and Lester Steele; and 3 sisters, Beulah Steele, Cleo Traxler and Myrtle Maggret.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. June Fryman, Associate Pastor of First Lutheran Church in Shelby, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
