CHARLES J. KEMP, AGE 67, OF 115 PARKWOOD DRIVE, SHELBY, DIED THURSDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 31, 1996, IN RIVERSIDE METHODIST HOSPITAL IN COLUMBUS, AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS. HE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 19, 1928 IN SPRINGFIELD, OHIO THE SON OF CHARLES AND NELLIE (WORTHINGTON) KEMP.

MR. KEMP ENLISTED IN THE NAVY, AND AS A YOUNG MAN WAS LATER DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY DURING THE KOREAN CONFLICT. AFTER HIS DISCHARGE FROM THE ARMY, HE JOINED THE AIR NATIONAL GUARD WHERE HE SERVED AS A MEDIC AND PURCHASING AGENT. HE RETIRED IN 1979 FROM THE 179TH AIR NATIONAL GUARD IN MANSFIELD.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, MARGARET E. “DEE DEE” (FOX) KEMP, WHOM HE MARRIED ON JULY 27, 1968; 1 STEP-DAUGHTER, DEE DEE L. AND ORVA DAWSON, JR. OF SHELBY; 7 STEP GRANDCHILDREN; 1 SISTER AND BROTHER-IN-LAW, GWEN AND LUKE GRAY OF SOUTH CHARLESTOWN, OHIO; 3 STEP BROTHERS, WILLIAM KEMP OF TEXAS, LARRY KEMP OF INDIANA, AND DAVID KEMP OF INDIANA; HIS STEP MOTHER, MARIAN KEMP OF INDIANA; NIECES AND NEPHEWS;

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, AND 1 SISTER, ALICE WALKER.

THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HOURS. PRIVATE GRAVESIDE SERVICES WILL BE HELD IN OAKLAND CEMETERY AT A LATER DATE.

THE TURNER FUNERAL HOME IS IN CHARGE OF THE ARRANGEMENTS.
