Charles D. Steele

Charles D. Steele, age 71, of 109 Walnut Street, Shelby, Ohio, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 4, 2000 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital.

He was born October 4, 1929 in Menifee County, Kentucky, the son of the late Wade and Pearl
Mae (Staton) Steele. As a young man he worked in the logging industry in Kentucky. After moving
to Shelby in 1949, he began working for Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. until 1972 when he opened his own business, Steel’s Retreading in Shelby. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby. He enjoyed his membership in the Plymouth Roaring Twenties CB Club. His hobbies included camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and walking.

Mr. Steele is survived by his wife, Sherri (Johnston) Steele, whom he married on May 8, 1992; 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law: Roger and Elaine Steele of Shelby, Rick and Elizabeth Steele of Mansfield, Charles W. Steele of Shelby, and Scott Ryan Steele at home; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law: Vicki and Duane Weaver of Hillard, Jennifer Rene and Ryan Smith at home, and April Lynn Steele at home; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 1 brother and sister-in-law, John and Evelyn Steele of Florida; 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law: Kathleen Stamper of Shelby and Doreen and Grover Picklesimer of Willard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father Millard McClain; his first wife, Dorothy (Adkins) Steele in 1991; 2 sisters: Juanita and Joyce Steele; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Stamper.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Calvary Baptist
Church on Washington Street in Shelby, with Rev. Steve Schag and Rev. Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to an educational fund for his four-year-old daughter, April.
