Catherine Jean (Metz) Lucas

Catherine Jean Lucas, age 86, of 1343 Wilging Drive, Mansfield, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born May 2, 1920 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Metz. She was a 1938 graduate of Shelby High School. She met the love of her life, Fred Lucas, Jr., while roller skating at the roller rink in Shelby. After a five week courtship, they married on June 16, 1941; A marriage that lasted 66 years. Catherine was a homemaker and enjoyed shooting archery with her husband and had been an avid reader.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Fred Lucas, Jr.; a son and his wife, Bill and Betty Lucas of Mansfield; 2 grandchildren, Sean Lucas and Jaime Lucas both of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Richard Metz and Howard Metz and an infant son, Frederick Lucas.

Friends may call on Friday, February 16, 2007 from Noon-1 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM by Pastor Jack Hackworth, Pastor of Cook Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Heart Association.
