Carl R. Waldruff

Carl R. Waldruff, age 76, of 3980 State Route 39 South, Shelby, died Thursday afternoon in the Crestwood Care Center after a long illness. He was born August 19, 1919 in Shelby, the son of Herbert and Myrtle (Clark) Waldruff.

Mr. Waldruff owned and operated Waldruff Trailer Manufacturing in Shelby for many years. He was a life member of the First Christian Church in Shelby, where he served as a deacon and elder; the Shelby Junior Order; and the Shelby Aviation Club, where he and his daughter, Lola, were airplane pilots. He was a 1937 graduate of Shelby High School.

Mr. Waldruff was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Kalk (DD611) in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Mr. Waldruff is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Rhea (Hartz) Waldruff, whom he married on August 22, 1940; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Larry and Gloria Waldruff of Mansfield; and Dan Waldruff of Shelby; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Lola and James Winningham of Shelby; 6 grandchildren, Scott and Andrew Waldruff of Mansfield, Tim and Tom Winningham of Shelby, and Kristen and Alex Waldruff of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Radene Bonecutter and 2 brothers, Howard and Robert Waldruff.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Earl D. Luginbuhl, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
