Carl F. DeWitt

Carl F. DeWitt, age 87, of Shelby Avenue, Shelby, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.

He was born December 21, 1919 in Newark, Ohio the son of the late George R. and Louise C. (Faist) DeWitt. He was a 1937 graduate of Newark Sr. High School and attended Business School. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. During his working career he had been employed at Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Roethlisberger Transfer Co. and The Ohio Steel Tube Co. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He and his wife, Marilyn, enjoyed making ceramics and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn R. (Strouse) DeWitt, whom he wed on March 21, 1951; 2 sons and their wives, Garry and Diane DeWitt of Columbus, Mark and Anne DeWitt of Norwalk; 6 grandchildren,
Kevin DeWitt, Michael Woods-DeWitt, Stephen DeWitt, Alexander DeWitt, Marianne DeWitt, and Andrew DeWitt; a great granddaughter, Mary Mackenzie Blackwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, Margaret Watson, Christine Arnold, Georgia McLauglin, and Barbara DeWitt.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 25, 2007, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home , 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Brad McBee, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors. Memorial expressions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
