Betty Jane (Viets) Young
Betty Jane Young, age 85, of Shelby, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 9, 2010 at her home.
She was born April 15, 1925 in Garrett, Indiana the daughter of the late George and Iona (Milliron) Viets. Betty was lovingly called Mom by many and knew no stranger. She was a former employee of Dominion Electric, Ideal Electric, Westinghouse, Mansfield Plating all in Mansfield, Packaging Insights, American Cancer Society, Shelby Y all in Shelby and Plymouth Schools. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby.
Betty is survived by 3 sons: Dick Viets of Virginia, James Kennedy (Theresa) Young of Canal Fulton, OH, and Richard Benton (Tammy) Young of Shelby; her grandchildren: Brent Young, Jessica Young, Joshua VanPelt, Rick Schick, Bryan Viets, Eric Simmons, Kyle Simmons and Cory Simmons; a half brother: Edward Elkins of Galion. She was preceded in death by her first husband: William McKinley Eaton, her second husband: Lance Darrell Young, her brothers: John, George, and Bob Elkins and a half brother: Don Postle.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 1-2 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM by Rev. Steve Schag. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shelby Y or the American Cancer Society.

Betty will be missed, she was like a grandmother to me. living next to her for 14 years, well you get to know each other. She loved her family very much and was very proud of all of you. She was the lady with the “knee cap buster”.

SORRY ABOUT THE THE LOSS OF UR MOM N GRANDMA. BETTY WAS A SPECIAL LADY I USED TO HAVE HER AS HER HOME HEALTH AIDE. SHE ALWAYS WOULD TEASE ME ABOUT USEIN HER KNEE CAP BUSTER ON ME . WILL SHE HAVE IT IN THE CASKET WITH HER . I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME TO CALLIN HOURS OR THE FUNERAL BECAUSE I HAVE TO WORK .
