Betty E. (Johnston) Sweeney
Betty E. Sweeney, age 80, of Shelby, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Med Central Shelby Hospital.
She was born March 27, 1930 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen (Sacher) Johnston. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and moved to Shelby in the early 1960’s. Betty worked at Marble & Edward Cleaning in Shelby, Superior Building Services in Ontario, Cornell’s Laundromat and cleaned various private residences. Betty and her family were the custodial staff at First United Methodist Church, First Lutheran Church and Trinity United Methodist Church, all in Shelby, for many years. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Shelby. She was very family oriented and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She enjoyed collecting baskets and watching birds in her back yard.
Betty is survived by her children: William H. Sweeney of Shelby and Pamela A. Sweeney of Shelby; a brother: Robert Bob (Anna Lee) Johnston of Burleigh, NC; Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: William H. Sweeney in 1997.
Friends may call on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10:00 AM with Rev. Tom Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Shelby Girl Scouts. On-line condolences may be made at
